The Cincinnati Reds are an American professional baseball team based in Cincinnati. Originally called the Resolute Base Ball Club of Cincinnati, the name was soon changed to the Cincinnati Base Ball Club, an amateur team formed by lawyers that gradually added professionals. The team became known as the Cincinnati Red Stockings due to its wearing knickers rather than the traditional trousers, with red knee socks- a costume condemned as "immoral" by the more prudish. It became baseball's first openly all-professional team when it became fully professional in 1869. They compete in Major League Baseball as a member club of the National League Central division. They were a charter member of the American Association in 1882 and joined the NL in 1890, being one of only five 19th-century teams still playing in its original city. They have won five World Series championships, nine NL pennants, one AA pennant, and 10 division titles. The team plays its home games at Great American Ball Park, which opened in 2003 replacing Riverfront Stadium.
