Sam Brunelle is a 6-foot-2 forward for the Virginia Cavaliers Women’s Basketball team. She is a transfer from the University of Notre Dame were she played for three seasons. Sam is from Ruckersville, Virginia. In 2021, Sam was a preseason All-ACC selection and on the Naismith Trophy Watch List. In 2020, she was an ACC All-Freshman Team selection and led all freshmen in the ACC in scoring with her 13.9 ppg. Ranked No. 6 overall by espnW in Class of 2019, reaching as high as No. 1. She is a two-time Naismith High School All-American. In 2019, Sam was named a McDonald’s High School All-American and won the three-point contest at the McDonald’s All-America game. In 2018, she was named Gatorade Virginia Player of the Year, USA Today Virginia Player of the Year, and MaxPreps High School All-America Third Team. Three-time All-State selection and finished her prep career with 2,229 points and 1,272 rebounds. Sam teamed up with Aliyah Boston, Paige Bueckers and Hailey Van Lith to capture the 2018 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Championship, and the four went on to claim gold at the Youth Olympic Games.
