While overshadowed by Alabama's football team for much of its history, the men's basketball program has gained prominence in recent years, earning a No.1 national ranking briefly in 2003 and reaching the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament in 2004. The current head coach, Nate Oats, has continued the team's success, leading them to SEC titles in 2021 and 2023, with their best season as the No.1 seed in the NCAA tournament in 2023.
