In 1935 the school became the Colorado State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, or Colorado A&M for short. CAM the Ram is the official mascot of Colorado State University. His name bears CSU history in that he is named for Colorado Agricultural and Mechanical College (the university's former name). Alumnus William Simpson'46 won a contest to name the bighorn sheep as the official mascot. CAM is a Ram bouillet Ram and has his own troop of Ram Handlers to help him out.
