The Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team has an impressive record, with 28 NCAA Tournament appearances and eight National Invitation Tournament appearances. They have won eight Big Ten regular-season conference championships, and three Big Ten tournament championships. The Hawkeyes have also made it to the Final Four three times, reaching the semifinals in 1955 and 1980, and playing in the championship game against the University of San Francisco in 1956. In the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, Iowa basketball was a powerhouse program under the leadership of coaches Lute Olson, George Raveling, and Tom Davis. Under Olson, the Hawkeyes won their last Big Ten regular-season championship and reached the Final Four in 1980. Today, the team plays in the 15,400-seat Carver-Hawkeye Arena, which they share with the Iowa women's basketball, wrestling, and volleyball teams. Prior to moving to Carver-Hawkeye Arena in 1983, the Hawkeyes played in the Iowa Armory and the Iowa Field House, which still hosts the school's gymnastics teams. The team's longest home winning streak of 21 games was set in 2006, a school record. Four Iowa head coaches have been honored with induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, including Sam Barry, Ralph Miller, Lute Olson, and George Raveling.
