They were one of the founding members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, having previously been a member of the Southern Conference where they won seven conference championships. The Wolfpack has won ten ACC conference championships and two national championships in 1974 and 1983. The 1983 championship win was particularly notable as it was an unexpected victory and is considered one of the most memorable in NCAA history.
