The University of Virginia (UVA) Cavaliers men's basketball team won their first NCAA Championship in 2019 and placed third at the Final Four in 1981. They have been ranked in the AP Poll's Top 5 over 100 times since 1980 and received seven No.1 seeds in the NCAA tournament. Additionally, UVA is the only ACC program and one of two NCAA programs to earn No.1 seeds in all four regions of the NCAA Tournament. Although the Cavaliers were a prominent program in the early days of college basketball under the direction of Pop Lannigan from 1905 to 1929 and were consistent winners under multi-sport coach Gus Tebell from 1930 to 1951, the team encountered difficulty in the 1950s and 1960s. Terry Holland took over in 1974, won their first ACC Championship, and led the team to their first NCAA tournament appearance in his second year. Since then, the team has claimed ten ACC season titles, the third-highest total in conference history. During the 18-game ACC era from 2012 to 2019, UVA had four out of five ACC teams that finished with 16-2 or better in conference play. They have also had 11 consecutive winning ACC seasons as of 2022, the longest active streak among ACC programs. Authentic work of art ©2023 Vintage Brand.
