In 1948, the Cleveland Indians and Boston Braves faced each other in the 45th edition of the World Series, which was the championship series in Major League Baseball for that season. The Braves had not won the National League pennant since 1914, while the Indians prevented an all-Boston World Series by defeating the Boston Red Sox in a one-game playoff for the American League flag. Despite Bob Feller, a prominent pitcher, not winning either of his two starts, the Indians won the series in six games to become champions for the second time and their first since 1920.
