This was the 63rd edition of the World Series and the last one played before the Commissioner's Trophy was introduced the following year. The Dodgers, who were the defending champions and had a dynasty of frequent postseason appearances since 1947, suffered a record low scoring, accumulating just two runs over the series (both in the first game), the lowest number of runs ever scored by any team in a World Series.
