The 1977 Seattle Mariners Inaugural Media Guide. The Seattle Mariners are an American professional baseball team based in Seattle, Washington. From their 1977 inception until June 1999, the club's home park was the Kingdome. The Mariners played their first game on April 6, 1977, to a sold-out crowd of 57,762 at the Kingdome, losing 7–0 to the California Angels. The Kingdome (officially the King County Multipurpose Domed Stadium) was a multi-purpose stadium in Seattle. The Kingdome opened in 1976 and was best known as the home stadium of the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL), the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB), and the Seattle SuperSonics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Kingdome measured 660 feet (200 m) wide from its inside walls. In 2015, King County finally paid off the bonds used to build and repair the Kingdome, 15 years after its demolition.
