Relive The Game with us as we throwback to some of our favorite Vintage Brand College Gameday Tour stops. We kick off with Auburn Tigers!
The Tiger Walk is one of the most imitated traditions in all of college sports. Two hours before each home game, the Tigers make the profound walk down Donahue Drive to Jordan-Hare Stadium. They don’t make this walk alone; they are instead greeted with thousands of Tiger fans packed in so tightly all you see is a sea of orange and navy. The Tiger tradition began in the 1960s when groups of kids packed in to see the team and collect autographs.
Vintage Brand was honored to participate in this great tradition.
As the Vintage Brand College Gameday Tour took to the dusty tailgating trail. Rows and rows of brightly branded Auburn trailers, tents, and trucks covered the tailgating scene. The Auburn fans had been there for the past two days, camped out, awaiting kick-off. Vintage Brand entered the scene. It was quiet at first, they were met with skepticism which quickly turned to pure joy when they saw the FREE retro Auburn koozie coming their way.
“I LOVE. the old vintage Auburn logos, they are so much better, thank you for bringing them back!”
“YES! This is the cutest old-fashioned Aubie I have ever seen. Thank you Vintage!”
The blue Auburn koozies gained momentum and spread across the tailgating college campus. The word was out, FREE old-school koozies were being passed out. The Vintage Gameday Tour Team joined the famous Tiger walk towards Jordan-Hare Stadium where they were met with thousands of fans participating in the 60 year old tradition. The team was quickly engulfed in a sea of navy and orange, pushing forward to partake in this anomaly. When is anything this good, FREE?
The original Auburn Tiger Walk came to be in the 1960s. Though it isn’t identical to the same phenomenon that it is today, both incarnations have one important thing in common: the love of Auburn football—and, of course, its players. Back when the walk started, the goal was to interact with players, as well as obtain their autographs. Children were the main participants, but over time, the Tiger Walk transformed into a rally for all ages.
In 1989, it was in full swing. In fact, on game day, 20,000 Auburn fans showed up for the Tiger Walk. Estimates of game attendees top off just past 87,000. Even better, they all got to celebrate some more hours late when Auburn won the game! With this successful day, the popular event gained even more traction in the world of college football.
