The Georgia vs. Florida game isn’t just a game. It’s a four-day festival. Best known as the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party,” the Gator-Bulldog rivalry has persisted for over a century, with an annual match so big it has to be held at a neutral stadium in Jacksonville. As serious football fans, we can assure you. It takes serious hatred to fill up an 80-thousand seat stadium. And it takes some seriously committed - and seriously fun - fanatics to overwhelm that stadium every year with a tailgate full of more than 150-thousand people.
WORLD’S LARGEST COCKTAIL PARTY
The annual Jacksonville showdown is high stakes, often deciding which of the two top ten teams make it to the SEC Championships. Plus, when it comes to the Gator-Bulldog rivalry, you can basically throw out the record books. Statistically, it’s the most unpredictable match-up in all of college football - switching back and forth in dominance for decades, with eight shocking upsets since 1986 alone. Competition has been even crazier in recent years, with both teams taking their turn at three-game winning streaks. This game was no exception when it comes to pre-game buzz, with Florida ranking no. 9 at 7-1 and Georgia no. 7 at 6-1. The teams, and the fans, were ready to rumble.
GATOR HATERS
When the Vintage Brand Team pulled up that day, the atmosphere was electric. Tailgaters from both sides spilled out into every available parking lot, underpass, street corner or grassy patch that they could feasibly pitch a tent - or just hunker down to shotgun a beer. The unique neutral site meant that it felt like a home game for both teams. Despite the fierce rivalry, because of the location, the Vintage Brand Team got to party with both sides that day, joining in with a Two Bits here, and a Dawg Call there. Most importantly, we also managed to pass out thousands of koozies - 2,500 Bulldog and 2,500 Gator, to keep it neutral - to some amazing fans.
