Oklahoma knows how to get back in the saddle better than anyone. There was no stopping the Sooners team at this game - undefeated and ranked #5, U of O had no problem cruising to a 52-14 victory that day against the Mountaineers. The Sooners mascot, though? That’s a different story. It turns out that the worst tackle Oklahoma saw that day wasn’t made by West Virginia - it was made by the field itself!

Real Oklahoma fans know that “Spirits are High When the Sooners are on the Wagon.” But what about when the wagon itself tumbles? After one of many impressive touchdowns by star quarterback Jalen Hurts, the Sooner Schooner - piloted by the U of O spirit squad and led by two white ponies named Boomer and Sooner - galloped on to the turf for its traditional celebratory spin. But things took a literal turn for the worst when the Schooner swung around a corner too sharply, tipping over and spilling its crew - talk about a mean tackle.
BACK IN THE SADDLE
Luckily, no one was hurt too badly in the crash, and Sooners spirits were “back in the saddle” in no time. Despite the accident, players and fans were thrilled to see the team bring home another win - and even more excited to celebrate the occasion with the thousands of free Vintage koozies the Team passed out. After an exciting day, the Vintage Team happily retired at the “Sooner Legends” hotel in Norman, a local favorite spot of fanatics, decorated floor-to-ceiling in Sooner crimson and cream. We couldn’t have asked for a better homebase, or a better game, to get us into the Sooner spirit.
